2024 AKWA IBOM STATE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS
- The 2024 Akwa Ibom State Local Government Elections will be conducted to provide the people of Akwa Ibom State with the choice to elect their Ward Councilors and Local Government Area Chairmen.
- There shall be simultaneous accreditation and voting.
- Voting shall be by open secret ballot; each voter must mark his/her ballot with their thumbprint behind the voting cubicle provided for this purpose.
- Those who are already on the queue at the time the Poll closes at 2pm must be allowed to vote.
When is the Akwa Ibom State Local Government Elections?
- The Elections will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
- From 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
Who Can Vote in Akwa Ibom State Local Government elections?
A person shall be allowed to vote if:
- He/she is a citizen of Nigeria.
- He/she has attained the age of eighteen (18).
- He/she is an indigene of the ward constituency or is ordinarily resident in the ward or constituency.
- He/she is a registered voter, whose name appears in the Register of Voters’ of a given Polling Unit/ward or constituency, and who displays a Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC) issued by INEC. There shall be no voting by proxy.
Where to Vote
- Registered voters are required to present themselves in person at Polling Units specifically established for polling purposes within each registration area/ward.
- These polling units are usually located at the same place where registration took place.
How to Vote
On Election Day, eligible voters will exercise their right to vote for candidates of their choice. Candidates nominated by their respective political parties to contest the elections shall be elected through a voting system known as Open -Secret Ballot. In this system, voters’ thumb/finger-print on the ballot for candidates of their choice in secret and cast their votes in the open.
Who can be Present in the Polling Unit?
- Registered Voters;
- Polling Officials;
- Relevant AKISIEC Staff carrying the official AKISIEC accreditation or other form of credentials;
- Accredited Polling/Party Agents;
- Accredited international and domestic observers;
- Accredited Media representatives;
- Members of the Security Personnel assigned to provide security at the Polling Unit.
